Loop Lockouts

Overview

Sometimes, a loop may be created in PXME by mistake when two actions are set to feed into one another—or when an action feeds back into itself. This creates an infinite loop of actions, which can slow down the system and cause issues.

Because this is usually unintentional, PXME has built-in protections to catch and stop loops automatically.

How Loop Lockouts Work

  • Automatic Detection – Campaigns, Triggers, and Workflows are automatically locked when they reach 50 starts/action executions for the same contact within 30 minutes.

    • Example: If a single contact record is added to the same Campaign or Workflow 50 times in 29 minutes, the Loop Lock will activate.

  • Error Notification – You’ll see an error message at the top of your screen indicating the loop lock.

What To Do If You Receive a Loop Error

  1. Do not continue testing the workflow or campaign—this may make the issue worse.

  2. Review the workflow logic to identify where actions may be feeding back into each other.

Common causes include:

  • A workflow that re-enrolls the same contact without conditions.

  • Two workflows or triggers that feed into one another in a cycle.

  1. Contact Support for assistance. Our team will:

  • Review the Campaign, Trigger, or Workflow setup.

  • Unlock it for you.

  • Help adjust the configuration to prevent the loop from happening again.

Best Practices to Avoid Loop Errors

  • Always double-check re-entry settings in workflows.

  • Be careful with triggers like Contact Created, Tag Added, or Form Submitted, as these can easily re-add contacts if not filtered.

  • Use filters and conditions (If/Else steps) to prevent unintended re-enrollments.

  • Test with a single contact before launching a workflow widely.

FAQ

Q: What is a Loop Lockout?
A: A Loop Lockout is an automatic protection that stops infinite loops in workflows, triggers, or campaigns when the same contact runs an action 50+ times in under 30 minutes.

Q: Can I unlock a loop myself?
A: No. Loop lockouts require Support intervention. Contact our team to review and resolve the issue.

Q: Will my contacts or data be lost if a loop is locked?
A: No. Your workflows, campaigns, and triggers remain intact. The system simply pauses the affected automation until the loop is fixed.

Q: How do I prevent loop errors?
A: Carefully check your workflow logic, use filters, and limit automatic re-entry rules that could cause repeated triggers.
