Overview

Instagram Direct Messages (DMs) are a vital communication channel for engaging leads, answering questions, and nurturing relationships. With PXME’s Instagram integration, you can manage DMs directly inside the Conversations tab and even automate follow-ups through workflows.


This guide explains how to connect your Instagram account to PXME, enable permissions, and start using Instagram DM features effectively.


Step 1: Connect Your Facebook and Instagram Accounts

To enable Instagram DMs in PXME, your Instagram Business or Creator account must be connected to a Facebook Page.

  1. Follow Instagram’s official steps: Connect Instagram to a Facebook Page.

  2. Enable Instagram Messaging Permissions in your Facebook/Instagram settings.

    • Without this, PXME cannot sync Instagram messages.

? Note: Personal Instagram accounts cannot be used. You must have a Business or Creator profile linked with Facebook.


Step 2: Integrate Instagram into PXME

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations.

  2. Under Facebook and Instagram, click Connect.

    • Gray icons = not connected.

    • Color icons = successfully connected.

  3. If Facebook is already connected, the “F” icon will appear blue.

  4. Follow the prompts to log into your Facebook/Instagram accounts.

  5. Accept all permission requests to complete the integration.


Step 3: Start Using Instagram DM Features

Communicate in Conversations

  • Navigate to Conversations in PXME.

  • View and reply to Instagram DMs alongside texts, emails, and other channels.

Automate with Workflows

  • Go to Workflows.

  • Select the trigger Customer Replied.

  • Add the filter Reply Channel = Instagram DM.

  • Build automations such as:

    • Sending auto-replies.

    • Applying tags based on DM keywords.

    • Notifying team members when new messages arrive.


Managing Instagram Messaging Permissions

To manage who has access to DMs across apps:

  1. Open the Instagram mobile app.

  2. Go to your Business or Creator profile.

  3. Tap Settings > Privacy > Messages.

  4. Under Connected Tools, toggle Allow Access to Messages:

    • On = PXME and other approved apps can manage Instagram DMs.

    • Off = DMs only visible in the Instagram app.

Q1: What if I can’t connect Instagram to PXME?

  • Verify your account is a Business or Creator profile.
